Workbook templates

A template is your estimating workbook, extracted once into SWAG. Estimates are created from it, and its formulas are what the grid recalculates.

Uploading a workbook

  1. Open Templates and upload the Excel file (.xlsx).
  2. SWAG extracts the workbook — sheet structure, formulas, and formats — into its schema.
  3. The upload ends with a fidelity report: the extracted workbook is recomputed and compared against the original to confirm the results match before anyone estimates with it.

Why the template matters

  • Every estimate references the template rather than copying it, so a workbook fix or improvement lands in one place.
  • The template is the authority on formulas; estimates store only user inputs. That's what keeps estimates small and browser recalculation exact.
  • Template rows show their verification state, and template-backed estimates are protected from rename/delete on the home screen.
