Workbook templates

A template is your workbook, extracted once into ProvenSheet. Documents are created from it, and its formulas are what the grid recalculates.

Adding a workbook

1. Choose Add Spreadsheet from the home screen.
2. Upload the Excel file — either pick it or drag it onto the page. ProvenSheet accepts .xlsx and .xlsm. The older .xls format is not supported, and a file it cannot read is refused up front with a reason rather than failing later.
3. ProvenSheet extracts the workbook — sheet structure, formulas, and formats — into its schema.
4. The upload ends with a fidelity report: the extracted workbook is recomputed and compared against the results Excel itself cached in the file, cell by cell, to confirm the maths survived before anyone relies on it.

Why the template matters

• Every document references the template rather than copying it, so a workbook fix or improvement lands in one place.
• The template is the authority on formulas; documents store only user inputs. That is what keeps documents small and browser recalculation exact.
• Template rows show their verification state, and the built-in sample is protected from rename and delete on the home screen.
